The inside of a cave carved into the sandstone rock formations in Cappadocia, Turkey there are numerous parietal line drawings (dating from the 6th to 13th centuries) in red onto the peachy-beige walls. There is a cross, mandalas, and other geometric shapes, Byzantine style arches and decorations are carved deeply into the wall (several inches). Large cracks appear in the walls as well, and in other caves, the walls have crumbled away.

Artwork created by the Year 3/4 class today inspired by cave paintings. The children worked in pairs to build a 3D relief image of an animal based on reference photos. They used cardboard and paper straws and then added colour using tissue paper.
So, I was back at North Newton Primary again today, where the Year 3/4 class wanted to make some artwork inspired by cave paintings. Look at their marvellous creatures. 🙂
