Halfway through #NationalPoetryMonth today! I wrote today's poem "thanksgiving and rains finally come" after returning home from #CEL24 in Boston. It's a tiny homage to E.E. Cummings #PoetryasPractice #WriteBesideThem #WriteforYourLife #AmWriting poetryaspractice.blogspot.com/2025/04/apri...
#CEL24 was wonderful! Compelling keynote addresses from @caroljago.bsky.social & @sonjacherrypaul.bsky.social with engaging breakout sessions and then productive workshops and conversations on Tuesday! I’m glad we bumped into each other again at #NCTE24!
Loving the new Fable app! Thanks @armarshall.bsky.social for the recommendation. This is why #winepd at #CEL24 is such a great thing! Talking with such great thinkers makes us all #bettertogether
A car sits in a driveway. A small tree is besides it. Over a foot of snow covers the scene.
Today was my second day of Thanksgiving break. Besides @tienpham.bsky.social and I shoveling twice, I was able to work through some follow-up items to #CEL24 prep work for #PCTELA25 & #CEL25. Things are looking good!

On Sunday, I was honored to receive the #CEL24 Teacher-Leader of Excellence Award. Kelly Gallagher received the Exemplary Leadership Award at the same ceremony, which was a little mind-blowing to me.
Thank you to everyone involved at and connected to #Cel24. What an amazing event! Left excited and thinking about ideas for #CEL25. Cannot wait! #PDlove

I’ve been gone from work for 5 school days for #NCTE24 & #CEL24, but I’m back at work today before break. We had a tight connection last night, and I made it home around 11. We’re almost there for a breather!
Home from #CEL24 and even with just 4 hours of sleep I’m heading to work because I have so many ideas from all the geniuses I was privileged to learn from. #literacyleaders
It was a wonderful conference, Nicholas. As a first time attendee, I got a great deal out of it, made incredible connections, and felt my leadership skills were enhanced every day and each session. Thank you for your leadership. #CEL24
Brain brimming, heart whole, I’m heading home from #CEL24 with such gratitude for the thought partners I’ve long known and just met. #bettertogether
Nick takes a selfie in a large, empty conference room filled with empty tables.
Another conference has come to a close! Mary Luckritz organized a fabulous #CEL24! Thank you to all our literacy leaders who were able to join!
Can I have a BIG round of applause for Mary Luckritz?! What an affirming and inspiring host and convention chair!!! #CEL24
CEL 2024 Annual Convention Keynote Speaker Sonja Cherry-Paul. Monday Morning.
Today’s #CEL24 convention opened with the wisdom and labor of @sonjacherrypaul.bsky.social. She situated her values in uplifting the oppressed, laid out an antiracist reading framework, and presented an exceptional modeling of reading a text.
"It's Tuesday, and..."
Such an awesome, fun, authentic improv exercise lead by Matthew Helmes to focus the power of YES.

Honored to present at #CEL24 on Leading Learning in an AI Integrated World: Engaging the School Community in AI Conversations. Happy to represent @MASSP and the work our state has done though collaboration with @MichiganVirtual to help national leaders embrace this challenge!
I'm so focused on the conversations and connections in the room and at the tables at #cel24 that it is hard to also share here.
(& I'm grossing out of practice with live posting. 😅)

#NCTE24 was amazing. Thank you to all of the passionate presenters, educators, and friends for sharing #PDLove. Beyond excited to continue the learning here and with friends at #CEL24.
Carol Jago stands at a podium giving a speech.
To kick off #CEL24, @caroljago.bsky.social engages us on “Challenged and Challenging Texts and Teaching.” Being in conversation with other literacy leaders is invigorating and pushes me to know and do better.

A long table of literacy leaders at lunch at a restaurant.
We took a break from our Conference on English Leadership Executive Committee Meeting for lunch today then returned to work! We’re looking forward to seeing everyone at #CEL24 starting tomorrow!
“The days of nebulous stances [in Leadership in the Teaching of English] are over. [Teachers in my school] know where I stand on the critical issues. So there is clarity.”
Catherine Tanis gives me clarity and hope — and helps me dream of possibility.

Pathways to Literacy Leadership. Friday, November 22. 11 to 12:15. Room 052A.
Are you a department chair or literacy leader in some capacity at #NCTE24? If so, join us at the Conference on English Leadership’s ( #CEL24 ) session today on Pathways to Literacy Leadership at 11am today (Friday) in room 052A. All are welcome (you don’t need to be a CEL member).
Nick’s holds a dark green journal. His nails are lime green. His laptop has a green cover and a light green pen lays across it. His NCTE conference badge sits atop the closed laptop.
I’m getting settled into the NCTE Executive Committee meeting at #NCTE24. Learning and steering organizational matters ties right into our #CEL24 theme: #LeadershipMatters, or balancing the matters of leadership with why leadership matters.
