A tall, tower-like ceramic sculpture displayed in a minimalist gallery space with bare concrete walls. The artwork consists of an impressive vertical stack of glazed ceramic vessels — including bowls, cups, pitchers, and vases — precariously balanced atop one another, narrowing slightly toward the top in a roughly conical form.

The ceramics feature expressive, dripping glazes in a rich palette of colors including white, black, amber, orange, green, and earthy browns, creating a painterly, spontaneous quality. The glaze drips cascade dramatically down the surfaces, unifying the individual pieces visually. The forms appear hand-built with organic, irregular edges that give the work an energetic, gestural character.

The sculpture rests on a standard wooden shipping pallet on a polished concrete floor, creating a deliberate contrast between the refined craft of the ceramics and the utilitarian base. The work stands approximately six feet tall, commanding the neutral space around it. The overall composition evokes themes of accumulation, balance, and the tension between fragility and permanence.

A surreal architectural interior blending Gothic cathedral elements with organic, marine-inspired forms. At the center stands an elaborate archway featuring a large, irregularly shaped portal with a glossy celadon and pale blue ceramic surface, marked by intricate crackle glazing patterns and irregular perforations reminiscent of coral or sea sponges. Multiple concentric white tubular arches frame the composition, their bases clustered with barnacle-like white spherical formations that build into sculptural mounds on either side.

Beyond the portal, a long vaulted corridor recedes dramatically into the distance, its ribbed Gothic ceiling rendered in deep teal and navy blue. An ornate chandelier hangs from the apex, its tiered form echoing Gothic spire detailing, repeated in diminishing scale down the hallway. Stained glass windows in jewel tones flank the sides of the foreground space.

The floor is composed of deep cobalt blue tiles, featuring a compass rose or star medallion inlay at the center foreground. The overall color palette contrasts cool oceanic blues and teals against creamy whites, creating an otherworldly atmosphere that merges ecclesiastical grandeur with deep-sea biological forms. The perspective draws the viewer's eye through layered arches into an infinite, dreamlike space.

A detailed ceramic sculpture depicting a vibrant deep-sea underwater scene, built upon a dark volcanic rock formation as its central structure. The piece features multiple glazed anglerfish with distinctive bioluminescent lures, rendered in rich cobalt and navy blues with intricate fin detailing and expressive golden eyes. Various marine creatures populate the composition, including round teal-green fish, a small terracotta fish emerging from a cave opening, and a sea turtle with a patterned shell.

The base of the sculpture is richly textured with an array of coral reef elements: stacked cylindrical coral columns in rust and amber, tube sponges in green and cream, blue crystalline spires, and scattered sea vegetation in multiple shades of green. Decorative ceramic vessels with dripping blue and teal glazes are integrated throughout the right side, suggesting sea anemones or underwater flora.

Additional details include small crustaceans, a starfish, serpentine sea creatures, and tiny pearl-like beads nestled among the coral. The color palette combines deep ocean blues and teals with warm terracotta, amber, and soft greens, all enhanced by glossy ceramic glazes that evoke the shimmering quality of underwater light. The sculpture is displayed against a neutral gray gradient background, highlighting the extraordinary craftsmanship and dimensional complexity of this maritime tableau.

Musée des beaux-arts curator Stephane Aquin recalls Mr. Archambault as an intense perfectionist: “He created from a plan and never varied from his vision. There was a surgical precision about his work that bordered on obsessive. While we were setting up the show, Archambault was constantly tinkering with the display. The works are colossal and very difficult to set up. But Louis would look at something and insist that it had to be moved a few inches to the left or the right. He didn’t care how many extra hours of work it might take. The end product had to match that vision that lived inside his head.”

Elegant in his mind and his manners, Mr. Archambault was always a gentleman: honest, loyal and authentic. In his sculpture, he sought out the spiritual, while in his heart he remained a purist. Near the end, he was a frail and soft-spoken man with thin white hair and a thin white beard. His voice was shaky but it was filled with a lifetime of love and admiration for his dear wife Mariette.
