The flight season begins between mid-April and May and continues into June. The adult variable checkerspot has a life span of ~15 days. The diet as larva consists entirely of plants while the adult feeds exclusively on #nectar. #Chalcedon #butterfly.
The #Chalcedon #checkerspot #butterfly larvae will emerge from eggs and feed/live on host plants like #stickymonkeyflower (#Diplacus #aurantiacus). After moving to a more secluded site, #larvae enter #diapause, emerging between early spring with #pupation in April. #chrysalis
