Photographed through the wall of an aquarium bowl, an assassin snail's enormous foot clings to the glass. Its shell is a conical helix, black with a yellow helical stripe, though the phone cam doesn't do the natural colour-contrast justice. Two tentacles with eyes about half-way along, one mostly in front of the other from this viewpoint, extend to the left and a large breathing tube or siphon points vertically. On top of the shell, behind the siphon, sits a bright red shrimp, about the same horizontal nose-to-tail length as the snail's vertical shell length. The shrimps antennae and legs are translucent and there are white tips to the tail fans or uropods. In the defocussed background, behind the shrimp, is an orange brown dead leaf that provides a surface for microbial colonization. The rest of the background is moss, white sand and micro grass
Shrimp Rodeo - just got back to find this going on in the new aquarium. A cherry shrimp (/Neocaridina davidi/) rides an assassin snail (/Clea helena/) heading for the surface and freedom!
