The world is like a mask dancing. If you want to see it well, you do not stand in one place. In the tradition of the Igbo people, an ethnic group in southern Nigeria, the mask, or masquerade, is a sacred ritual involving theater, dance, and costumes, representing spiritual and tribal elements of the culture. Nigerian author Chinua Achebe references this Igbo tradition in his 1988 book “Arrow of God,” emphasizing that if we want to experience all of the beautiful dynamics the world has to offer, we have to dance along with it.

No individual 'fathered' modern African literature Nii Ayikwei Parkes: Chinua Achebe is right to reject this dubious honour, but his contribution as a writer and, crucially, editor – has been immense

12 years ago (March 21, 2013) we bid #ChinuaAchebe farewell. As well as being a writer, he was a pivotal editor for AWS in the 60s/70s. A writer/editor myself, I wrote this piece in 2009 after #Achebe rejected the tag 'father' of African literature  www.theguardian.com/books/booksb...
