Last week we were at #ChivaConference - a day of engaged discussion on how we ensure young people with perinatally acquired #HIV are supported well into adulthood throughout different life transitions.
It was great to hear from the @chivaprojects.bsky.social Youth Committee about their experiences.
Alexandra David presented 'Clinical characteristics and circumstances of children and young people newly presenting to paediatric HIV services in England: 2023-2025' at the 20th Annual Chiva Conference

Such a thought provoking talk from Professor Maryam Shahmanesh about what's going on globally in terms of funding for HIV research and medication, and what we in the UK can do to help the situation elsewhere.
Community advocacy can and does make a difference.

Plenty of good news in our research plenary around successful antiretroviral therapy in children and young people and good results from Chiva's PREMs survey which shows that young people's experiences of attending clinic were overwhelmingly positive.

Dr Merle Henderson and Prof Rashida Abbas Ferrand's talk surmised that Clinicians & GPs need to assess for co-morbidities beyond HIV, including heart health & bone density.
There's hope that the next generation who began treatment younger may see improved long-term outcomes.

Live from Baltimore in the US, Dr Allison Agwu provided an insightful talk on the evolution of HIV in the US for young people, from the first identified baby born with HIV in 1977 to now.

A heartbreaking reminder of the young lives lost to paediatric HIV in the past in Romania and an overview of the inspiring work of Dr Mariana Mardarescu.
Mariana's work has been an inspiration to many of our delegates attending today.

Prof Diana Gibb from the MRC at UCL shared an excellent summary of HIV paediatric trials looking back and sharing optimistic news from recent research.
5 year follow up data from Penta's ODYSSEY Trial continues to show the benefit of dolutegravir for children living with HIV.

Wow what a night we had last night, opening the 20th Annual Chiva Conference.
We had exciting updates on HIV cure research and on the HIV Action Plan, powerful poetry, all followed by a meal and karaoke with the Chiva Youth Committee to celebrate 20 years of the #ChivaConference.
It's one week until our conference starts! We're looking forward to hearing from these expert speakers about ageing with perinatally acquired HIV - from both a UK and global perspective.
There's still time to register! www.chiva.org.uk/professional...
