A big sand tiger beetle is in the forefront of the photo. The rest of it is a close-up of sand. The beetle is mostly a rich brown, but with some cream-colored markings on each wing. Nearest the head is a small curve at the outer edge of the wing. In the middle is an undulating line that goes from the middle of the wing on the outer edge to the center on both sides. The one on the bottom starts a little off the edge, dips down and then goes to the center of the wing. It has large black eyes on the sides of its head. Its two front legs are stretched out to the side and the back ones are held directly behind the beetle. The two antennae are about equal in length to its front legs.
