Photo inspection of a water heater bypass valve filter port. It's a circular opening in the brass fixture. Some 5-6 cm deep, it's filled with shadow. The exterior brass is tarnished in a pattern of dark waves flowing left and right to either side of the opening. The effect seems one of a curious eye staring back at the camera. # # #

A driver-side front quarter panel view of a black and chrome 1956 Plymouth Belvedere sedan. That model year flattened and lowered into a sleek model body awaiting the gaudiness of fins and exhaust tails of 1957. The monochrome view, left to right, captures the curves of the heavily chromed bumper, grille, and forward-swept headlight frame. The hemispherical high beam lens bulges out from the concentric circular headlight lens configuration. Beneath it, the chrome eyelid of the parking or signal lamp appears sleepy. Just further right, the cursive chrome 'Belvedere' badge shines in the black triangular merge of the fender panel's downward sweep into the rising curve of the wheel well and the horizontal chrome side trim that runs above it all for the unseen length of the side panels. A dark sliver of the front tire rubber disappears into its wide white sidewall. It reappears briefly offsetting the curved lines of the chrome hubcap.

This is an overhead view of a circular plastic cup of strawberry Italian ice fresh from peeling away the foil top. Dead-center is the frozen imprint of an air bubble in the rounded form of an open mouth with a uvula. I see a tongue, a scream, a shout, the silence of one kneeling in prayer or meditation, a hoof print, a butt print, a helicopter news anchor view of a pair of breasts… like really… what's a guy not going to see first… the soft edges of a melting Valentine heart.

Title: Light Wine 📱📷 The photograph presents a view of a single wine glass illuminated by fixed multipoint LED lighting. The view is down toward a partially visible glass of red wine, a slice of about one tenth of the width of the glass. Shadow in the glass outlines the bowl shape with dark lines. Red light ripples from the outlines in evenly spaced red wavelets. Edges of the bowl of the glass create lines of shadow. The oval shape of the bowl repeats in similar dark wavelets radiating outward across the countertop from a dark cavern or deep abyss beneath the glass. The surprise seems to be a wine clear enough to allow light to pass through multiple times. The liquid itself behaved as a lense with the wine-to-glass interface becoming a mirror. Refraction, reflection, and interference appear between the wine surface, the curved interior glass surfaces, the thick base of the stemless glass, and the light color of the wine. It creates the shadows and uneven embossed effects across parts of the countertop. Everything (camera, glassware, countertop, and lighting) is stationary. The mix of multiple layers, shaped surfaces, and varied air space between the glass surfaces results in overlayed shadows and refractions. It paints an artificially swirling two-dimensional landscape of light, umbras, and penumbras across the countertop. © David B.
