Very proud to have played a small part in the development of this video and supporting resources for a 1 hour teacher CPD session on the National Emergency Briefing.

Meryl handing out crest awards
When teaching about climate it's even more important to celebrate student achievements ππ½
Recently I've been in schools handing out #CREST award certificates from the @britsciassoc.bsky.social for our #TerraLigo #SustainabiliTEA #STEM initiative π±π
#NatureBasedSolutions #biochar #ClimateInEducation
Last week @climatemajority.bsky.social & Climate Courage Schools released The Hardest Lesson, a video of a teacher covering the #ClimateEmergency in class. It's a hard, but necessary watch. @thierryaaron.bsky.social's article explains the uncomfortable truth on why #ClimateInEducation is now vital ππ½
Meryl standing in a TerraLigo tee shirt holding a pot plant
Even as an adult, it's lovely to get a pat on the back, or to receive a sticker for good work.
I'm inordinately proud to announce I just received my 150+ Hours of Engagement @stemlearning.bsky.social UK #STEMAmbassador Digital Badge π
A small reward for helping schools put #ClimateInEducation π
Want to let DfE, the Education Select Committee & Ofsted know that we need more #ClimateInEducation? In response to the Curriculum and Assessment Review, led by @beckyfrancis.bsky.social, a cross-sector working group is calling for a long-term, ethically grounded approach to curriculum renewal π§΅
It was fab to record a chat with @geogramblings.com an absolute expert on how to embed #ClimateInEducation π
My form of #ClimateAction is putting #ClimateInEducation. This impact report describes what me and the rest of the @ministryofeco.bsky.social team have been up to over the past academic year. If you want to know how your educational setting can get involved just send me a DM π€
I learned about climate change in 1985 (top left corner). At 15 I naively thought governments would take action. At 56 I'm far less inclined to believe most politicians have any handle on where we're heading. Embedding #ClimateInEducation becomes more crucial year by year.
Tick tock π₯πβ°
By the time a Year 1 child leaves school in 2039 we will have very probably exceeded 2.0β°C of global heating. The failure of our education system to prepare young people for life on our changing planet is becoming increasingly alarming. The DfE must urgently embed #ClimateInEducation.

Me and Hubster at the Magpies Festival in York. A great weekend!
Getting #ClimateInEducation is my purpose, but chilling at a music festival in the sunshine with Hubster is my happy place π
Great research to link climate to the study of binary in maths lessons. Embedding #ClimateInEducation doesn't make it less meaningful, it gives it more impact π
www.theguardian.com/news/2025/ju...
By the time Year 1 children aged 5-6 now are in Year 10 aged 15-16 there'll be twice as many extreme heat days as there are today.
In other words, by 2035 there'll be 100% more extreme heat classroom days where 30+ overheating children struggle to learn.
We need #ClimateInEducation.
Tick tock π₯ π β°
#ClimateInEducation is only just starting in earnest. At no point is it okay to say to young people "it's too late" & suggest we give up on decarbonisation. In classrooms around the world we must ensure students understand that every fraction of a β°C matters & give them tools to take #ClimateAction.
World leaders need to take "immediate unprecedented action" to prevent #climate tipping points π€
Slightly perturbed that we have yet to embed #ClimateInEducation which could help us move towards a positive tipping point of collective action.
Tick tock π₯πβ°
We urgently need #ClimateInEducation to ensure young people can deal with extreme weather, and to build skills for the just transition.
Tick tock π₯ π β°
"The climate of 1991-2020 doesn't exist anymore" π€
Given that the last major revision of the national curriculum for England was last done in 2013 can we now say, with certainty, that it is definitely out of date and needs a serious, urgent overhaul to put #ClimateInEducation?
Tick tock π₯πβ°
Investing in young people by putting #ClimateInEducation is a quick win with limited additional cost.
Any further delay to the reform of the education system to ensure young people have the knowledge and skills for sustainable futures will have detrimental financial implications.

Cut the green crap on a global warming graph
I'll never forgive Gove for "Cutting the Green Crap" from the national curriculum in 2013. The Y1s then are leaving Y13 now. Rather than being prepared for the radical & urgent transition needed, they're ill prepared for warming that's #FasterThanExpected.
Time for #ClimateInEducation
Tick tock π₯πβ°
Warming is #FasterThanExpected π yet we still waiting for #ClimateInEducation as another academic year ends.

Note the use of repetition to help emphasise the point.

"...3C would be a totally catastrophic outcome for humanity" - @doctorvive.bsky.social.
Yet this is what we are tracking towards unless urgent & radical #ClimateAction is taken.
Is must be time to embed #ClimateInEducation? π€

Is it hot in the UK map of NE England
"Roasting" is the new meteorological term for the temperature near me!
11β°C warmer than "normal" according to istheukhotrightnow.com.
Why are we still waiting for #ClimateInEducation?
Tick tock π₯πβ°
The climate crisis is an education crisis... and, the longer it takes for radical #ClimateAction, the more likely it will become a catastrophe. Yet still we wait for #ClimateInEducation.

The education system is responsible for preparing young people for their future. The #ClimateEmergency is barely covered in the national curriculum & the rate of change in education is intolerably slow. Meanwhile the planet is heating up #FasterThanExpected.
We must put #ClimateInEducation!
π₯πβ°
Reminder π£
"Climate Change" still isn't mentioned in the national curriculum before students are 15+ in KS4, and even then it isn't covered in much detail except in Geography GCSE which is optional.
It is beyond time to put #ClimateInEducation.

Bless your cotton socks @geogramblings.com! I'm still buzzing from gathering so many incredible folk in the same room. There is plenty of fun to be had when we put #ClimateInEducation.
Safe travels home & let's get together sooner rather than later π
Meryl with loads of awesome educators
Today was the @ministryofeco.bsky.social Teacher Celebration for educators who are going above & beyond the requirements of their job specifications to put #ClimateInEducation. I've been smiling all day. This is my tribe π
Interesting article providing stretch and challenge for #ClimateInEducation.
TLDR: we don't know when, or even if, the AMOC will collapse but if it does we won't be growing vineyards in the UK, we'll be building igloos π§π

Big oil shouldn't be greenwashing education!
After several attempts to block their posts from appearing on my feed, for entertainment, I've started trolling the BP Energising Futures account on FaceBook. Much as we need #ClimateInEducation, #BigOil sponsored resources have no place in the classroom.
It is time to #TeachTheTruth
