The bathroom tiles in the #Arts&Crafts house at Coleton Fishacre are by #EdwardBawden
They are a whimsical take on life for the wealthy in the 1920s. The house itself was completed in 1927.

On my last day in #Brixham for this trip, today I walked from Kingswear back to Brixham with a stop-off for lunch at @nationaltrust.org.uk #ColetonFishacre (where the flower borders are looking fabulous). & then wrapped things up with a last swim from Breakwater Beach; too many jellyfish for me tho’
The Savoy Cocktail Book
Single bed with 30s navy & white dress
Black bookcase with books & bright vases
Octagonal bookcase with Penguin book spines
The things I liked best?
The books…and this little guest room

I walked down down down the valley past tree ferns & bamboo (as per) to the SW coastal path: below is Pudcombe Cove but it’s *very* steep
And up, up, up above a massive eucalyptus
A very lovely place. I’d hate to drive there in summer/school hols😏

Mute #ColetonFishacre if you’ve had enough 😂
The valley garden is steep & with its own microclimate as is often the case along the South Devon & Cornish coast
1930s dining table
1920s cocktail cabinet with “The Savoy Cocktail Book”
Art Deco cream chair
Sunlit room with sofa & cocktail cabinet
The dining table but then my favourite room- the cocktail room. Singapore Sling, dahling Geraldine?

Red & white checked kitchen table
1920s ingredients in old tins & jars eg “Cloves”
Servants laid up tea table with fruit cake
Mangle
The kitchen
My aunt remembers her aunt using such a mangle…
I especially liked the servants’ room where they would eat their meals & “relax” (though for the time they were well-treated apparently)
#ColetonFishacre
Two single beds with matching pale pink quilted silk covers
A cigarette ashtray & mock cigarette
A very low bath with white times & black bottom
Towel rails & armchair
Such low baths!
But the house had central heating & the radiators still work
The strange thing..growing up in the 70s with elderly relatives I seem to remember such bedspreads, such dressing table bits
#ColetonFishacre
A gentleman’s room
The family had a tidal pool down at Pudcombe Cove. I think @chrisworthing.bsky.social would suit the woollen bathing suit
#ColetonFishacre
1920s dressing table accoutrements for the genteel lady …violet oil…paint for varicose veins….an original cabinet
I love the Art Deco look

There are 2 bathrooms & a loo along the corridor but each room had a sink & “toilette”
Coleton Fishacre House - a grey dlate house built on angles with a courtyard
A 1920s lounge with green armchairs & sofa, a baby grand, a pair of shoes & silk gloves left draped
Art Deco door & stairs fanning out in semi/circles
Fireplace with silk evening gloves
House first. Built by the D’Oyley-Cartes’ - designed by Oswald Milne, a student of Lutyens.
I *loved* & felt Hercule Poirot might appear at any moment…
The privacy money could buy you….

I will be uploading photos of #ColetonFishacre house & gardens soon….please mute that hashtag if not your thing (a 1920s National Trust property nr Dartmouth)

Coleton Fishacre is a 1920s country house in Devon, owned by the National Trust. The house was originally the retreat of the D'Oyly Carte family, of Gilbert and Sullivan fame. #ColetonFishacre #NationalTrust #wessexattractions
