This work will inform further studies on the genetic bases of these traits, and potentially breeding and training strategies at Canine Companions.
Further work is needed to compare other populations and species!

Studying very different species helps us understand what’s shared and what’s unique in how minds work.
Crocodiles offer a window into how cognition evolves across vertebrates.

My hope is that CORVIDATA can support:
• large-scale comparative analyses
• theory-driven tests of ecological & social hypotheses
• conservation-relevant trait-based approaches
The dataset is openly available, and intended as a starting point (4/4) #Corvids #ComparativeCognition #BehaviouralEcology
LESSONS FROM CROCODILE
🐊 We’re ancient, social, adaptable — not “primitive”.
Studying us helps scientists understand how minds evolve… including yours.
🧠 Evolution leaves clues. We carry them.

📣 New paper alert! Capuchin monkeys showed selective information seeking behaviour, suggesting that this is a flexible & domain general behaviour, not just a foraging strategy 🧪 🐒 #CompCogPapers #ComparativeCognition #Monkey #AnimalBehavior #ComparativePsychology

Just read a paper on honeybees, with around 1 million neurons, bees show abstract numerical reasoning once thought unique to primates. Meaning:
✔️ They can count (up to about 4–5).
✔️ They can even add & subtract, when trained with colour cues!!

Researchers found bonobos had more failed attempts and produced smaller flakes than humans. "Their limitations were both biomechanical and cognitive," Toth explains.
