Temporal Cognition in Apes In humans, at least some of our ability to coordinate our actions with the timing of events in our world is due to our capacities for temporal cognition. However, controversy arises when we turn ou...

This work will inform further studies on the genetic bases of these traits, and potentially breeding and training strategies at Canine Companions.

Further work is needed to compare other populations and species!

My hope is that CORVIDATA can support:
• large-scale comparative analyses
• theory-driven tests of ecological & social hypotheses
• conservation-relevant trait-based approaches

The dataset is openly available, and intended as a starting point (4/4) #Corvids #ComparativeCognition #BehaviouralEcology

Numerical cognition in honeybees enables addition and subtraction Honeybees learn to add or subtract one item from a set using color cues and can interpolate operations to a novel number.

Just read a paper on honeybees, with around 1 million neurons, bees show abstract numerical reasoning once thought unique to primates. Meaning:
✔️ They can count (up to about 4–5).
✔️ They can even add & subtract, when trained with colour cues!!

Researchers found bonobos had more failed attempts and produced smaller flakes than humans. "Their limitations were both biomechanical and cognitive," Toth explains.
