She created this wedding dress from Nigerian damask and beaded Aso Oke fabric, handwoven by the Yoruba people of southwestern Nigeria and typically reserved for special occasions.

Another Chicago-based designer featured in #FieldMuseum 's #ConnectingThreads exhibit was Stephane St. Jaymes. Here he made a silk kaftan dress with a cowl hood and dolman sleeves. The pattern references a Nigerian hairstyle where the hair is braided and tied up. #Fashionhistory #ootd
