Mark Carney was the Chair for a company called Brookfield, which is an investment firm that among other things, buys depressed securities, improves their value and then sells them. He was chair from 2020-January 2025, he has never been a key investor, creator, or majority shareholder of the company. He is no longer affiliated with Brookfield. The roll of a chairman is to organize meetings, work closely with the BOD, CEO, to keep these people in line with policies and procedures, to oversee day-to-day activities along with senior leadership, and to meet stakeholders expectations (to name a few things.) The chair has no sole or direct ability to influence any financial decisions regarding the company. Everything is done by motion, by a vote, and agreement of the BOD. People are repeating false information about Mark Carney moving "his" company to the United States, however this was never his company and the company in question opened a 2nd headquarters in New York, with it's other remaining in Toronto. In a time of rampant corruption and misinformation, I believe it is important to present facts whenever we can.
