Riyadh Global Drought Resilience Partnership (RGDRP) : Announced at COP16 in December 2024, the RGDRP aims to help countries shift from reactive drought response to proactive preparedness through early warning systems, improved land and water management, and financial tools. The Partnership brings together governments, financial institutions, and technical partners to coordinate efforts and build resilience. It complements initiatives like the Middle East Green Initiative and leverages tools from the International Drought Resilience Alliance and the Integrated Drought Management Programme.
Happening Now: Global partners meet in Cologne, Germany, to launch the #Riyadh Global #Drought Resilience Partnership's operational framework.
Announced at #Cop16Riyadh in Dec 2024, this is a major step to shift countries from crisis response to proactive drought preparedness.

🧵This week’s statement from the incoming #COP30 presidency emphasised the importance of incorporating lessons learned from the Biodiversity (#CBD #COP16) and Desertification (UNCCD’s #COP16Riyadh) COPs into the #UNFCCC COP processes that will occur later this year in the Brazilian city of Belém.

At UNCCD #COP16Riyadh, the Committee of the Whole resumed at 1:30 am on Saturday morning. Parties were unable to adopt a substantive decision on negotiating a #drought framework or protocol, and decided to try to adopt a decision at COP17 in Mongolia. #OurLandOurFuture
