Restoring Land, Restoring Hope. This is our message to the world. Rangelands cover more than half of the Earth's surface and support 500M people, yet they remain among the most overlooked ecosystems. See in Ulaanbaatar. #UNCCDCOP17 #UNited4Land

International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists (IYRP 2026) in Kenya led by IMPACT_KENYA
The International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists (IYRP 2026) — declared by the United Nations General Assembly — is a historic global initiative that will bring together pastoralist communities from across Africa to celebrate and strengthen their contributions to sustainable development, peace, climate resilience, and cultural heritage (FAO, 2025; IYRP, 2025). Rangelands, which cover a significant portion of the world’s land surface, are vital ecosystems that support biodiversity, store carbon, regulate water, and sustain the livelihoods of millions of pastoralists (FAO, 2025).

In Kenya, the year — led by Impact kenya — will convene pastoralist leaders, youth, women, policymakers, researchers, and stakeholders to advance inclusive dialogue and collective action. The programme will focus on enhancing pastoralists’ rights to land and mobility, promoting sustainable rangeland management, and integrating indigenous knowledge into climate adaptation strategies. It will also emphasize peacebuilding by fostering cooperation across communities and reducing conflicts over shared resources through customary governance and shared stewardship practices (IYRP, 2025; FAO, 2025).

IYRP 2026 summig for recognizing pastoralists as custodians of landscapes and champions of coexistence, while thanking all organizations and individuals working tirelessly for a better pastoral life across the continent.

When the land gets sick, so do we Land degradation and drought are fueling a hidden health crisis – but we still have time to act.

We think of #drought as dried rivers or failed harvests. However, it's also a health crisis affecting lungs, hearts, and immune systems.

Over 100 million hectares of land are lost every year. Our new policy brief demonstrates: human and planetary health are inseparable. Let's act now. #UNited4Land

Greening the Mexican Desert - UNDP Nature In the parched communities of the Mixteca region’s desert fringe, along the Western border of Mexico’s Oaxaca state, the wait for the rainy season feels interminable. The realization that rains are becoming scarcer and less reliable is particularly sobering at the end of spring, a critical time in this region: it is not only the hottest, but also the driest time of year, marking the end of the long dry season, as most rains in Oaxaca come during the summer.

Over 1,000 native trees planted 🌳

275 structures built to retain water 💧

One goal: revive a desertifying ecosystem.
