Pacific Dogwood (Cornus nuttallii) 1933, watercolor on paper, by Mary Vaux Walcott. Used with permission of Smithsonian American Art Museum, Gift of the artist, 1970.355.88
Happy #BCDay!
Western or Pacific, #CornusNuttallii has been BC’s provincial flower since 1956.
Botanist Thomas Nuttall first described it in 1834; subsequently named nuttallii after him.
DYK? The #dogwood flower is the small centre, the "petals" are actually bracts.
