#Corrib
Yesterday on the east bank of the #Corrib river at Menlo, #Galway, spring tentatively making its presence felt with blackthorn bushes here & there flowering profusely. Little in leaf but the air full of bird song & ash (often ivy covered as in photo) about to flower. Summer beckons ...

So cool that #Corrib in #WestRoxbury is on this list. They are clearly an anchor of the neighborhood, and they have the best fish and chips in the city! #Boston

Clare river with spoil heaps from arterial drainage of late 50s/early 60s on either side. Lichen-covered limestone boulders expose at break that facilitates drainage from the flat hinterland (once part of L. Corrib; long infilled). Village of Montiagh in the far distance; MO'C, 2025-01-17
Zoom-lens view of wetlands behind the spoil heaps that line the sides of the Clare river. Whooper swans in the distance (2 and a flock, partially hidden to the right). Village of Montiagh in the background. MO'C, 2025-01-17
Zoom-lens view pair of Whooper swans. Buildings relating to village of Montiagh in the background. MO'C, 2025-01-17 Swans about 500 m distant; could not get closer!
Sunset on the low the low granite hills of Connemara (from Montiagh North, on the north side of the Clare river; Carboniferous limestone country). MO'C; 2025-01-17
Late last evening on the east L. #Corrib basin, north of Clare river (Montiagh North). Extensive wetlands & winter home to Whooper swan, curlew, lapwing. Fortunately, these survived major arterial drainage of late 50s the spoil of which look like interrupted dykes marking out the course of the river
A panoramic view of the river Corrib in Galway city in Ireland, with the new(ish) pedestrian bridge in the foreground and a vivid red and yellow sunrise in the background.
A nice wintery sunrise this morning in Galway - a view of the pedestrian bridge over the Corrib beside the cathedral.

A kingfisher (male, I think) doing a very fast flypast on a tributary stream of the river Corrib just west of Galway city yesterday morning. Even at 1/2000 sec shutter speed, the wings are blurred! #kingfisher #cruidín #Galway #river #corrib #ireland #bird #hunter
regular fields on S facing slopes attest to intensive land-use in 19 & early 20C. Fields extend from near lake shore (and close to sea-level) to >150 m
View to the east in general direction of Corr na Móna. This arm of L. Corrib has several islands, some with woody vegetation
Structures - presumbly long-abandoned houses - in the shelter of a small col and hence sheltered from the prevailing strong SW that are a feature of this valley. Lower slopes of Lackavrea (Leic Aimhréid = stone uneven) on RHS
Fine section of stoney deposits from the last Ice Age overtopped by peat. Source of gravel used for path construction. Looks like sand martins have discovered a useful place to nest during their spring/summer sojourns in Ireland. Photos: Michael O'Connell; 2024-02-04
On Sunday I discovered a bit of hidden Connemara & Joyce Country on ‘Old Western Way’. Northern side of Lackavrea Mountain that forms S boundary of an arm of L. Corrib that lies 50 km distant from #Galway city where #Corrib enters #GalwayBay
Yesterday high pressure dominant so cold, crisp & calm on the river #Corrib, #Galway. Ruins of Menlo Castle splenden in their isolation, apart from swans flying south to join companions in the Claddagh Basin.
So the #corrib in #galway #ireland is in one hell of a hurry to get the to the #sea. @ Spanish… https://www.instagram.com/p/BHsJVc7Bq4m/
