It has a grey head with a black forehead and crest, a green-black breast band, and a white belly. Its back is brownish-grey with a bronze sheen on the shoulders. In flight, it shows a broad white wing bar and a black tail. This lapwing is also distinguished by its pink eye-ring, legs and bill, and by the red bony spurs (not pictured) hidden under its wings. Conservation status: Least Concern Distribution: Widespread throughout South America, excepting densely forested, arid, or high-altitude regions. Recently spreading through Central America.
