Events this weekend and beyond Culture is coming alive There’s a bit of Bible study, some funds to be raised for man’s best friend, wine specials, art walkabouts, panel discussions, karaoke nights, blind dates and so much more in store for you this week. Whether you’re trying to be a tourist in your own town, hear some beautiful Congolese music in the evening or cozy up with your girls over a few cocktails under the Windhoek night sky, we’ve got it all for you. This autumn may be a little chilly, a sign of more to come, but don’t worry, we have just the thing to warm you up. This Weekend A cool multi-venue event is coming to Swakopmund for art lovers this Saturday. Night At The Galleries is an annual Easter evening experience, featuring showcases at various galleries throughout the town between 17h00 and 21h00. There are 13 venues to visit. On Saturday in Windhoek, Vinyls Music and Arts Cafe is running an open mic night for aspiring and seasoned poets, musicians, and comedians seeking a platform for creative expression. The registration fee is N$50 and the show starts from 14h30. Next Week This coming Tuesday, the Franco-Namibian Cultural Centre (FNCC) is hosting ‘Rock Art’ in celebration of Earth Day. This discussion with heritage and tourism experts Melanie Duval and Meed Mbidzo from the Department of Natural Resource Sciences at the Namibia University of Science and Technology will be moderated by Disney Andreas of the Namibia Nature Foundation from 14h00. There will be a spoken word performance by Angelina Akawa. Next Thursday, 25 April, the FNCC presents ‘Rumba Night’, featuring the live bands Rumba Roots and Kiltir. Tickets are N$80 in advance and the shows runs from 19h00. There will be an ‘All About Astrology’ class for those who want to learn how to use astrology for spiritual growth at Niizala Guesthouse in Pioneerspark. The fee is N$200 and more details will be provided once a booking is made at +264 81 648 2301. Recurring There will be a Bible School on Wheels at the CTC Auditorium. The next session, ‘The 5 Stages of Consecration’, will run on Tuesdays: 22 April, 29 April, 6 May and 13 May. Learn, grow, develop, and equip yourself with various topics and courses between 18h00 and 21h00. Each course is N$400. The Speakeasy in Liliencron Street is hosting a ladies’ night every Wednesday with 50% off of all cocktails and meal options available. Vinyls Music and Art Cafe is hosting Wine Wednesdays every week where you can pop in for 3 glasses of their finest for N$150. The special runs all day long. Every Friday is ‘Whiskey & Wines’ at Windhoek Sky Restaurant on the fourth floor of the Independence Memorial Museum from 17h30 to 19h30. Come through for a 20% discount on any whiskey and wine. The Stick & Whistle in Olympia has ‘Whistle Sundays’ every week, featuring live music, drinks specials, good food, hookah and aux sessions where you can plug in your own sounds. Doors open from 11h00. Beyond On 3 May ‘Dinner with Strangers: The Singles Table’ happens, an exclusive experience for singles ready to meet their match. The event starts at 17h00 and venue details are still to be announced. The second Annual Coastal Trade Fair and Conference, themed ‘Collaborate for Growth, Solve Inequality, Act on Climate’, will be held at the MTC Dome from 29 May to 1 June. This event aims to foster collaboration, address inequalities and promote climate action through various discussions and trade opportunities.
