Looking through the middle third of a good sized Paper Birch tree-- maybe something like 30cm/12" diameter at the base, 3/4 of that in the thicker part of the middle shown here. The tree has many branches which further burst into a vast number of fine twigs, all bare still at this season, and mostly silhouetted against the near white ot medium grey overcast sky (we see some lighter hints only on the trunk of the tree, none of the twigs). A few branch tips bear what may be emerging catkins though more likely what we are seeing are remnant seeds from last year. The tree suggests strength simultaneous with delicate intricacy- only part of the metaphors for the Goddess of Wild Places, whom this tree is associated with.
This week is warmer- Aspen + Willow catkins are bursting forth, should soon be flowering. Birch are slower. Here's a Paper Birch against a blustery #spring #sky yesterday afternoon. #Birch is associated with #Baltic #Goddess #Ragana of #Witches + #Wild places #CyclesOfLife #Alberta #WitchSky #trees
but instead a significant day around a full moon when life and death become much clearer.
Our time is not guaranteed and as we contemplate death, we can more deeply appreciate life itself. #grief #cyclesofLife 4/6
