Albrecht Dürer, titled The Apocalyptic Woman or The Lady of the Sun. It is an illustration from his influential 1498 book, the Apocalipsis cum figuris (Apocalypse with Pictures).
The artwork depicts a vision described in Chapter 12 of the Book of Revelation in the Bible.
It shows a radiant woman, interpreted in Christian tradition as the Virgin Mary, the Church, or Israel, "clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars".
The woman is confronted by a great, red, seven-headed dragon.
Above, God the Father appears enthroned in glory, surrounded by angels.
Dürer's composition is known for its dramatic style, combining late Gothic elements with Renaissance structure.
