A slope chart showing the development of indicators of the quality of liberal democracies (V-DEM) during the first year of Trump I and Trump II administrations. From 2016 to 2017, the indicators (ranging on a scale from 0 to 1, with 1 being high quality) decreased between 0.01 and 0.09 points. From 2024 to 2025, the liberal democracy index decreased by 0.18 points, legislative constraints by 0.25, equity before the law by 0.11, and judicial constraints by 0.06.
What will stop the transformation of the United States into an autocracy?
The rate at which American democracy is currently being dismantled is without precedent in modern history.

A line plot of the contestant tap-outs through time by season on the survivalist show Alone (US produced version with season 4 excluded as that was pairs). This shows the draw-down from 10 contestants to 1. Season 7 has the only contestant to make it to 100 days. The seasons has an annotation "Roland Welker, 'The 100 Day King', survived -40°F and knifed a musk ox." The newest season (season 12) was in Africa and has the annotation "S12: Africa lasted just 34 days. Heat, unfamiliar terrain, or under-vetted contestants?" Data is from the {alone} R package.

A two-panel data visualization titled "Repair Isn't the Problem — The System Is." The left panel is a scatter plot showing product categories by median repairability score (x-axis, 1–10) versus percentage successfully repaired (y-axis, 0–100%). A shaded amber region marks the "system constraint" zone — categories rated easy to fix (score ≥6) but repaired less than 50% of the time. Two rust-colored points, Computer Equipment/Phones and Display and Sound Equipment, fall in this zone near the 50% threshold. Slate-colored points for Textiles and Tools Non-Electric sit above 85% success despite similar repairability scores. The right panel is a horizontal bar chart showing the share of recorded failure reasons. "Spare parts unavailable" dominates at 65% (rust bar), followed by "Failure unidentified" at 26% and "Insufficient time" at 9% (gray bars). Together, the panels show that repair failure is driven by systemic constraints — primarily missing parts — rather than by volunteer skill or product difficulty. Data source: Repair Monitor (repaircafes.org).

Tile grid map of England showing household recyling waste by region. London (33%) and North East (31%) have the lowest rates while South West (49%) has the highest.
Just 42% of household waste gets recycled in England, a trend that has flatlined since 2010 after a decade of improving recycling rates. In some regions, the rate is even lower.
The new recycling rules from 1 Apr might change this. 🤞

Title : How many species are threatened in Canada? Subtitle : The count in each major taxonomic group, according to the Red List. The entire image has a red background with everything else in white (text, labels, data points etc). The chart is a circular pictorial plot, using aspecific pictogram for each taxonomic group. There's Amphibians, Reptiles, Mammals, Molluscs, Plants, Fungi, Birds, Other Inverts, Fishes. At the center there is a frog, representing the Amphibians, it's alone as there is only one species of Amphibian that is threatened. It then extends to 5 pictograms for reptiles and then goes all the way to fishes which are the largest group in terms of threatened species, for a count of 52 species.
