Turns out it’s easy (and cheap) to get PCR-amplifiable DNA from Dinosaur Chicken Nuggets using ATL Buffer-Proteinase K lysis + magnetic beads.

Currently preparing 10 #DIYNAFLUOR kits for grade 10 students to assemble as a part of a science outreach program run by my institute.

They will use the DIYNAFLOUR to quantify fluorescent nanoparticles they get to synthesize.

(Wish I got to do this when I was 15. πŸ˜… πŸ¦•)

We have a design revision that appears to improve the LoD by ~3.5x, providing quantitation down to 0.16 ng DNA. This should cover v.short nanopore library QC.

Have an experimental #DIYNAFLUOR design that drives the LED's quite hard (up to 100 mA), so naturally wanted see if LED output intensity degraded with use.

40,000 measurements over 4 days with no major decrease in LED intensity noted, however I did accidentally make a thermometer. πŸ˜…πŸ§ͺπŸ§¬πŸ¦•
