This is an incredible opportunity. The Fernandez lab has an amazing work environment and Maria is a lovely mentor. Also, you get to be neighbors with us (Tennessen Lab) - we are right next door. Come and be in our neighboring lab !

We need to do this more !!!

#Dros26 doesn’t have to end in Chicago. Grab something to remember the meeting, your new collaborations & friendships, and the science that brought us together. 🪰
If you couldn't make it, you can still bring a piece of the meeting home!

Science is not just data, its community! my last activity as Drosophila Board President was to write a theme song for our fly field. it was soooo awesome to rock it with @tarafinegan.bsky.social and ~1000 fly fanciers at #Dros26! 🪰

We thank and congratulate all the participants for yet another exciting fly meeting. 🎉
Do you already miss learning about cool fly research?
We have got you covered! Check out these fly papers in the March issue of #GENETICS and #G3journal

The committee for the 2026 Drosophila Community Service Award for outstanding community service included Michelle Arbeitman (Co-chair), Cale Whitworth (Co-chair), Elizabeth Chen, Lydia Grmai, Amy Kiger, and Steven Marygold.
The Community Service Award recipients for 2026 were the REDFly Database Team and the FlyBase Developer team, for their roles in development of online repositories for the dissemination and analysis of Drosophila data.
The 2026 Drosophila Community Service Award was presented earlier this month at #DROS26.
This year's recipients were the REDFly Database Team and the FlyBase Developer Team, for their roles in the development of online repositories for the dissemination of Drosophila data.
As #Dros26 comes to a close, we’d like to extend a sincere thank you to our Premier Sponsor, US Biological. Their support helped make this year’s meeting possible and brings brilliant minds together that help science move forward.
Y’all better read the linked Substack about #NIH funding mechanisms.
The problem is bigger than #Flybase funding. It’s bigger than #OMB slow-walking I warned about at the #Drosophila conference #dros26 two weeks ago.
RFK Jr., Podcast Jay, and the Neo-Lysenkoists are killing American science.
📣 #Dros26 recordings now available in the Conference App! If you registered, you can now access all platform, plenary & keynote sessions through April 30.

Had a blast performing with @lucksmith.bsky.social on his awesome original Drosophila celebration song at #Dros26!

#Dros26 was so great last week to only think of Flies and forget all the world's messes. Bonus to witness @lucksmith.bsky.social and @tarafinegan.bsky.social great performance of "Don't you know that the Fly is fly!" www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tht-...
A bit of caution for those who attended #DROS26 - although I ran into a lot of great people, unfortunately I also ran into COVID. The people who were wearing masks in crowded poster sessions look pretty smart about now!
@tarafinegan.bsky.social+me had a blast rocking #Dros26! maybe we do it again?🪰

Thank you to everyone who stopped by the DSHB booth—we loved hearing about the antibodies you’re using and the reagents on your wishlists.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to share our work at the “67th Annual Drosophila Research Conference” in Chicago, IL.
I was also honored to serve as a poster judge for the “Cell Division and Cell Growth” session.

Last week I attended #Dros26 and had a wonderful time. I saw so many creative approaches to uncover new Drosophila biology throughout the talks and poster sessions. Top-tier science!
Thank you @genetics-gsa.bsky.social for making my attendance possible by awarding me the DeLill Nasser Award!
Adding #Dros26
I had a really nice time in Chicago catching up with old friends at #Dros26, and also meeting new people - like blues legend Buddy Guy! (OK not at the conference itself, but still pretty crazy)
Signing off as the #grad student rep for the Fly board ! And super excited to pass on the baton to Melissa Mychalczuk from the Wolfner Lab ! Can't wait to see all the amazing things she does for the #Drosophila community and #earlycareer trainees.
#Dros26
feeling a lot of positive energy from #Dros26, it is so needed in these times. especially after sharing more broadly about how arts and music intersect with science, i had great convos with lots of people about this. check out this incredible tattoo! bonus points if you know what molecule it is... 🪰
That’s a wrap on #dros26! To the amazing organizers, students, postdocs, Fly Board, and all the attendees - @genetics-gsa.bsky.social is grateful for you! Check out some of the Fly origami.
...and on the subject of debts...
I am always grateful for the tireless efforts of Suzy Brown and the entire @genetics-gsa.bsky.social staff, who make our #Drosophila annual meetings, including #dros26, run so smoothly.

This will sound... bizarre. Did I miss a #dros26 slide show & call-out for "In Memoriam" — a tribute to members of the #Drosophila community who passed away last year?
We stand on the shoulders of giants: men & women who taught us, nurtured us, encouraged us. We should acknowledge our debt to them.
This has already been a wonderful plenary session at #Dros26; the awesomeness continues with Vanessa Ruta (Rockefeller) studying variation in courtship rituals from individual interactions to species divergence. Fun fact: Drosophila males will follow moving dots as if they were following females
