Mermaid Kohaku, not very original I will admit but I kinda wanted to draw her like this saying this quote from the show. Kinda felt it was more alluring.

Senku hasn’t quite graduated to the vacuum-sealed glass tubes with wound filaments and metal cages, but he has lit the night sky artificially for the first time in thousands of years. One small step for Senku is one mighty leap for the villagers of the Stone World! #DrStone 1.9.20

It’s hard to imagine what our modern lives would be like without light bulbs, let alone electricity. Edison’s bulbs debuted in 1879. One Japanese village celebrates this feat annually by lighting bamboo lanterns kansaiculture.blogspot.com/2018/04/thom... #DrStone 1.9.19

What’s a village to do with all that power? Well, in one of my favorite sequences in all of Dr. Stone, Senku is going to light up the night! Thomas Edison tested thousands of different materials for filaments for his light bulbs, including carbonized bamboo, which lasted 1,200 hours. #DrStone 1.9.18

Back to the generator: In this version, man-power turns 2 copper discs and sets them spinning past 2 stationary magnets. Faraday’s principle of induction states that moving a conductor through a changing magnetic field induces current to flow. Welcome to the Electric Age! #DrStone 1.9.17

Why is Senku’s face all blown up? It’s thanks to urushiol, an oily sap in poison oak, poison sumac and poison dogwood that can cause a nasty rash if you’re allergic. It’s also harvested from the Japanese lacquer tree … so Kohaku’s lacquer was the culprit. Bingo! #DrStone 1.9.15

Okay so magnets and copper and manpower all make sense for the generator, but what the heck is up with Senku’s face? Well, it turns out that when he handled Kohaku’s lacquer, something in the material did not quite agree with him. #DrStone 1.9.14

A thermal generator, aka thermoelectric generator or Seebeck generator, are solid state devices that convert heat to generate electrical energy through temperature differences. The effect was first discovered by Alessandro Volta and then rediscovered by Thomas Johann Seebeck. #DrStone 1.9.13

Kohaku holds two halves of the magnet up as Senku says, "You have the poles backwards."

It’s easier to experience magnetic attraction and repulsion than it is to explain it. It’s due to the arrangement of the electrons in the atoms at either pole. Opposite charges attract, like charges repel. The mathematics of this phenomenon can be traced back to Coulomb’s law #DrStone 1.9.12

One particular property of copper that makes it such an ideal material for making wires – other than its superb conductivity, of which only the rarer silver is better – is its ductility, which means it is capable of being drawn out into a wire or thread. #DrStone 1.9.9

We’re back to melting copper, which we’ll need for the wire to wrap around the iron bar. But what’s the lacquer for? To properly generate a magnetic field, there must be an insulator between the copper and the iron. That’s where the lacquer comes in! #DrStone 1.9.8

Magnets certainly occur in nature, notably as magnetite lodestones. Earth’s magnetic field isn’t strong enough to turn these minerals into magnets on its own. For that, they’ll need lightning strikes, just like the one Senku plans to harness! #DrStone 1.9.7
