On #ThisDayInHistory in 1936, half a million mourners attended the funeral of #BuenaventuraDurruti. The Spanish #anarchist had been killed in an early battle of the #SpanishCivilWar. #Durruti's positions against fascism & monarchism made his funeral one of the biggest in #Spain.

Hoy hace 89 años murió Buenaventura Durruti mientras defendía Madrid de los fascistas. Estaba participando en la batalla de Ciudad Universitaria junto a los milicianos anarquistas que vinieron desde Catalunya.
Evitaron la entrada del ejercito fascista en Madrid.

On #ThisDayInHistory in 1936, #anarchist and #anticapitalist crusader #BuenaventuraDurruti was killed at Madrid, defending it from #fascists. Beloved, #Durruti's funeral was attended by half a million people. His #DurrutiColumn continued fighting throughout the #SpanishCivilWar.
The accompanying image of Durruti, with his quote, “We are ready to end fascism once and for all, even in spite of the Republican government,” seems almost as if he was speaking directly to Americans in 2024.
