Art: Page 2. Morfran stares over the lip of the cauldron as his mother stands over him. Morfran whispers, “Mother…” Ceridwen interrupts him: “Morfran. Do not deny your birthright.” Next panel, Ceridwen lifts Morfran’s hand. Morfran tells her to wait, but she then drags the hand down into the cauldron. Morfran screams. At the bottom of the page, Morfran is in shock as he tears his hand away from the scalding heat of the cauldron. Ceridwen stares in confusion.
Art: Page 3. Morfran drops to the ground and Ceridwen follows: “It burned you,” she says, “What have you done?” Gwion stands in the background, staring. His shocked expression is in focus in the next panel. Something begins whispering into the room, voice emanating from the cauldron. “Gwion,” it says. Gwion looks up and his eyes appear vacant. The voice continues calling, “Gwion Bach.” The final panel shows the room overtaken by smoke from the cauldron, the color an eerie green. The words “Sing your poem unto us” echo through the room but only Gwion reacts.
