Celebrating Denmark's liberation from Na*i occupation. The message came during the Danish broadcast from BBC on the evening of May 4th, 1945. People burnt their blackout curtains in the street to celebrate. Ever since we put lit candles in the window on this evening each year. 🇩🇰🕯️

Every year on the night of 4 May we light candles in the windows to celebrate the end of German occupation of Denmark on 4 May 1945 and also too remember and honour the people that gave their lives to ensure our freedom.

Fire tændte stearinlys foran et vindue, for at markere Danmarks befrielse den fjerde maj.
Men farfar blev anholdt og fængslet af nazisterne foran min dengang 4-årige far.
Min far fortalte at besøget i fængslet satte dybe spor i ham.
Min farfar kom heldigvis hjem efter befrielsen.
Vi må aldrig glemme.
