Run DMC - Raising Hell

Eminem - The Slim Shady LP
The music is good but the lyrics are hard at times. It helps to remember that Shady is a cartoon like character and as such the violence is clearly parody, but the misogyny and homophobia are still challenging.

Great album. It is a testament to how influential they were that when the album ran out and Tidal moved on to similar style tracks, they all still sounded like them.

As someone who knows Cooper for his big hits and persona, albums like this really reiterate that he has a lot of talent beyond the headline grabbing image.

Van Halen - 1984.
Musically this is more advanced than much of the 'Hair-metal' of the era, especially with its inclusion of heavy synths that create a unique mixed sound. But it is somewhat let down by DLR's childishly crude lyrics.

Had never heard of this before and still have no idea what it really is, but I did enjoy it.
Closest I can think to describe it is a well performed score for an obscure soviet cartoon.

U2 - All that you can't leave behind.

Don't get how this album made the list. I enjoy a lot of U2's 20th century stuff, but by this album they had already lost their authentic voice IMO.
Favourite Track: Beaufitful Day reminds me of football.

Iggy Pop - Lust for Life

7 albums in, already had two from Bowie/Iggy Berlin era. The fact they released 4 classics between them in 12 months is incredible.

Favourite track: Fall in Love With Me.
Bowie esque song with Iggy's unique vocals.

Can never get into this. Every time I listen to it, I love the opening tracks but it becomes very samey very quickly. By the time of the ironically named Release (09:06 long) I'm begging for one.

An unquestioned classic. Half rock album, half art piece, all excellent.

Favourite track: The title track obviously but also very fond of The Secret Life or Arabia.

Some of the best Motown/soul I've heard. Perhaps not as catchy as more famous hits, but more musically accomplished and well rounded.

Not listened to much Sonic Youth but can see their influence on a lot of stuff I do know: Grunge, Shoegaze, early Pumpkins, even Sin-e era Jeff Buckley.
