#DearDiary, I’ve become obsessed with Dark Entries Records in San Francisco, where I’ve done some serious mail ordering over the past couple of months. It is not enough. As I write this, I’m contemplating my next online shopping spree. Some highlights include Deep Entries: Gay Electronic Excursions 1979-1985. The fabulous cover image is a computerized new wave bathhouse cruising scene and the inside of the record matches the outside. I also picked up three volumes of the late, great Patrick Cowley’s gay porn scores and a soundtrack to a vintage Al Parker movie called Turned On credited to Forbidden Overture yet is really by the legendary Man Parrish. Everything genius. All that stuff is beautifully on vinyl, but my favorite purchase is Hot Rod To Hell, a cassette tape of poetry written and spoken by the long departed adult film star Roy Garrett and set to music by the brilliant Mr. Parrish. I love. Beyond. Sometimes now I spend late nights crusing eBay seeking old smut mags with features on the lost art of Roy Garrett. I talked to an old friend on the phone the other day. My gorgeous friend moved away from New York about 25 years ago. She said bluntly, “I don’t miss it a single bit.” And I get it. I think I only miss the things that I had already missed, if you get what I’m saying. Places I’d Rather Be. The Trucks. And I’d like to be there with Roy Garrett. #TrueConfessions by #BillMullen
