#DavesTop100 - The Spotify Playlist
92 Hrs 9 Minutes of #ausmusic pleasure
If you want the entire #DavesTop100 list on one place you can find it here: docs.google.com/spreadsheets...
I'll create a Spotify list in coming days (next week probably) for those who want it. I'll add it under this post when I do.
And that's it. That's the #DavesTop100 list. Thanks again to @ericbanana.bsky.social for suggesting I do this, I still hate you, and it will take some time to recover and catch up on all the work I have been avoiding this week.
I think we can aqll agree that #ausmusic is awesome. Just listen!
Album cover featuring a textured, abstract face design created from wood-like patterns with deep blue spaces forming the eyes, nose, and mouth. The background suggests a starry night sky. The band name ‘Crowded House’ appears in metallic, mosaic-style text at the top.
Thanks for following along with #DavesTop100 #ausmusic list. This is the second Crowded House album in the list, and has so many hits I just don't even know what to say except just listen. "You've seen me at my worst, and it won't be the last time I'm down there"
Woodface - Crowded House
Album cover with a minimalist design featuring a light blue vintage car illustrated against a gray background. The band name ‘CUSTARD’ is written in bold orange text at the top, while the album title ‘Wisenheimer’ appears below in a playful, stylized font.
I know, another Custard album just straight after the last one. Blame them for their #ausmusic album titles, not my fault. I love the television! And I love Custard! Don't forget to add the hashtag Dave #DavesTop100
Wisenheimer - Custard
Album cover with a bright red background featuring a colorful cartoon-like figure with a round body, holding a flower and smiling. A speech bubble reads ‘Welcome to…’ above its head. The title ‘Happyland’ is displayed in bold white text with a layered, overlapping design at the bottom.
Happyland were an Australian punk rock duo formed in 1997 as a side project by Janet English on bass guitar and lead vocals (from Spiderbait) and her then-boyfriend, Quan Yeomans on lead guitar and vocals (from Regurgitator). It's awesome, take a listen! #DavesTop100 #ausmusic
Album cover featuring a surreal, painted landscape with a large satellite dish, a castle-like building, and a planet with rings floating in the sky. A person holding a microphone stands in the foreground. The band name ‘CUSTARD’ is displayed in bold, black letters at the top, with the album title ‘We have the technology’ written below in a smaller font.
This is a popular choice in this household, I never hear any arguments when it gets a spin. And why would I, it's a classic #ausmusic album. Not everyone's cup of tea I guess, but they are 100% #DavesTop100 material.
We Have The Technology - Custard
Album cover featuring a blonde Rebecca Barnard with braided hair, wearing a navy shirt with yellow trim, looking off to the side with a soft smile. On the right, there is an image of the Virgin Mary surrounded by roses and flanked by green and red flags. The artist name ‘Rebeccas Empire’ appears in cursive text at the top, and the album title ‘way of all things’ is displayed in a modern, lowercase font within a rounded rectangle.
"I wouldn't talk to her like that if I were you".
Rebecca Barnard grew up and went to school in the suburb where I now live, and she's just awesome. This album is fuzzy, gritty, and I just love it. Great #ausmusic addition to #DavesTop100. You're so rude!
Way of All Things - Rebeccas Empire
Album cover featuring a stylized illustration of a serious-looking Alex Lloyd in a black outfit, holding a gun. The title ‘Watching Angels Mend’ appears in bold red text alongside the artist’s name in white, set against a muted gray background.
I really got into this album in a big way when it was released, and then he played at the Big Day Out and I went into this big shed to watch him and was nearly crushed to death by a surging huge crowd. Fun times. #ausmusic #DavesTop100
Watching Angels Mend - Alex Lloyd
Album cover featuring Vika and Linda sitting under a tree in a vibrant, colorful landscape. One wears a red dress with floral patterns, and the other wears a green dress, both surrounded by fruits such as watermelons and apples. The title ‘Vika and Linda’ appears in handwritten-style text at the top left.
These gals are often consigned to the background as backing singers (Black Sorrows, Hunnas, Archie Roach, John Farnham etc) but they shine in their own right too, so they deserve to be on #DavesTop100 #ausmusic list.
Vika & Linda - Vika & Linda
Album cover featuring a vibrant collage-style design with a red muscle car, a boombox, a city skyline, and a jet plane flying above, set against an orange and yellow background. Bold text at the bottom reads ‘28 Days’ in large yellow font, with smaller text above it that says ‘Upstyledown.
Does anyone remember these guys? I never hear them mentioned anywhere. Were they just shit and I didn't realise? It debuted at #1 on the ARIA #ausmusic charts so they can't have been too bad, right? Anyway, they're on #DavesTop100
Up Style Down - 28days
Album cover for Regurgitator’s ‘Unit,’ featuring a minimalist design with a bright yellow circle centered on a gray background. The album title ‘UNIT’ is displayed in bold, blocky black typography, with the band name ‘REGURGITATOR’ in a smaller, pixelated font above it.
Big fan of the gurg. This is just a great #ausmusic album, so it was one of the first I added to #DavesTop100 list. A bold mix of futuristic sounds and retro vibes, blending sharp beats, quirky lyrics, and infectious melodies into a creative, genre-defying musical journey.
Unit - Regurgitator
“Album cover for Paul Kelly and the Messengers’ ‘Under the Sun,’ featuring a collage-style design with a central black-and-white photograph of Paul Kelly against a yellow, irregularly shaped background. Surrounding the main image are smaller black-and-white photos of the band members, layered over an abstract orange and black textured background. The album title and artist name appear in bold, distressed text at the top.
The final PK album in this list is a great #ausmusic addition to #DavesTop100. 'Don't Stand Too Close To The Window' is a standout, but there are so many good tunes on this record it's unfair to pick out just one. But I did anyway, because I could.
Under the Sun - Paul Kelly
Hey, anyone who hasn't seen, Dave Hooper (@itsonelouder.com) has been posting his Top 100 Australian Albums. An incredible effort and a great list.

Album cover for The Cat Empire’s ‘Two Shoes,’ featuring a minimalist design with elegant, cursive typography for the band’s name in the center. A small orange stamp-like detail in the top-right corner displays a crown symbol and text, and a circular illustration of a palm tree on a beach appears at the bottom. The background is a warm, textured beige.
#DavesTop100 is in the final stages. Last 10 #ausmusic albums coming up. This is the second entry for The Cat Empire. I dunno if this is really one of their best, but it holds a special place for me. So there!
Two Shoes - The Cat Empire
OK, just 10 more albums to post in #DavesTop100 #ausmusic list. What a journey! I'll post them up tomorrow. It takes a lot of effort to post them all up with the alt text and images and everything for each post, and I'm knackered. I hate you now @ericbanana.bsky.social just so you know 😂
Album cover for Yothu Yindi’s ‘Tribal Voice,’ featuring an artwork of a snake inside a circular design with traditional Aboriginal patterns, set against a striking red and orange sunset background. The band name appears in bold, decorated yellow text at the top, and the album title ‘Tribal Voice’ is written in stylized black lettering at the bottom.
This album peaked at #4 on the ARIA charts, and featured the hit song 'Treaty'
"Back in 1988, all those talking politicians" - it seems they're still talking, and fck all has changed. Maybe we should let these people have a voice for a change? #DavesTop100 #ausmusic
Tribal Voice - Yothu Yindi
Album cover for Hitmen’s ‘Tora Tora D.T.K.’, featuring a black-and-white photograph of two band members performing live, with one playing guitar and the other singing passionately into a microphone. The title text is styled in bold pink with sharp, angular typography, and a ‘Access All Areas’ pass graphic is included in the design
I never got to see these guys play live, but this album gave me a taste of what it might be like. I played this to death in my teens, loved it. So it gets a listing on #DavesTop100 #ausmusic list
Tora Tora DTK - Hitmen
Album cover of Thirsty Merc’s self-titled album, featuring a group photo of the band members standing against a wooden background. Text reads ‘The Australian Rock Album of 2005’ and highlights hit songs ‘Someday, Someday’ and ‘In the Summertime,’ along with bonus tracks. A warning label indicates ‘moderate impact’ with coarse language or themes.
I have seen these guys more than I'd like to admit. I just like their stuff. Especially this first album, it's very very good. As such, it gets a listing in #DavesTop100 #ausmusic list. Rai is a very good musician, which you'll discover if ever you see them live.
Thirsty Merc - Thirsty Merc
A collage-style album cover featuring a group photo of five band members in casual attire. The image is clipped to a clipboard, surrounded by scattered photo slides and artistic elements. The title “The Swing” is handwritten next to the bold black band name at the top. The white background creates a clean, vintage aesthetic
ANother INXS album, because we need at least two in #DavesTop100 #ausmusic list. 'Original SIn', 'Melting in the Sun', 'I send a Message', 'Dancing on the Jetty', Johnsons Aeroplane', 'Burn for You', how many hits you want?
The Swing - INXS
A soft, sepia-toned album cover featuring a woman resting her chin on her hand, gazing thoughtfully to the side. The title “The Sound of White” appears in delicate text to the upper left, with the artist’s name, “Missy Higgins,” prominently displayed in bold orange letters. The minimalist design emphasizes a reflective and emotive tone
Watching Missy at Bluesfest a couple of years back, a bunch of young women filming me as I belted out her tunes at the top of my lungs. They thought it was hilarious watching an old bloke enjoy her stuff as much as they were. Didn't care. #DavesTop100 #ausmusic
The Sound of White - Missy Higgins
A classic album cover featuring a group portrait of The Seekers dressed formally. The centerpiece is Judith Durham in a yellow dress, surrounded by three men in black suits. The bold title “The Seekers” appears at the top in white, set against a blue background, with additional text highlighting hit songs included in the album.
Go ahead, laugh it up, give me as much shit as you want. I couldn't give two fcks, because I love The Seekers and nothing can change that. So they get a place on #DavesTop100 #ausmusic list, and if you don't like it, go write your own list!
The Seekers - The Seekers
A bold album cover featuring a vivid red and black color scheme with a stylized crowd scene. The text “The Living End” appears prominently in a distressed white font across the top.
I don't know what it takes to become #ausmusic royalty, but surely these guys have done enough? Enough at least to be worthy of an entry into #DavesTop100. Hits aplenty on this record, it's a ripper!
The Living End - The Living End
An abstract album cover with a minimalist design featuring a blue background, flowing white wave patterns, and a stylized animal icon alongside the text “The Herd” in simple typography.
More hip hop? Why not? I wouldn't be me without having at least a few #ausmusic albums in #DavesTop100
Like a $3.40 bag of fresh hiphop
from your local fish and chip shop
AH Scallops! With Dollops of flavour on top,
When we do what we do we give heads the bops
The Herd - The Herd
A striking album cover featuring a figure holding a sword and shield, silhouetted against a glowing doorway. The intense light contrasts with the dark surroundings, creating a dramatic and powerful effect.
Aussie hip-hop isn't massive, but somehow these guys have managed to carve out a very impressive career not just here, but worldwide. This was their third album, but it's the one that broke through thanks to JJJ. #ausmusic #DavesTop100
The Calling - Hilltop Hoods
An album cover featuring Crowded House, one of whom is upside-down, set against a red curtain backdrop. The art style is whimsical and surreal, with intricate details and bold typography
First entry for CH in #DavesTop100 #ausmusic list, and I could have chosen their debut, but I went with this instead. Maybe not as hit driven (though it does feature some hits), but it is certainly a good album.
Temple of Low Men - Crowded House
Minimalist album cover with a bright blue background, featuring the Sunnyboys dressed in dark clothing, seated in a relaxed pose, with bold pink text in the top right corner.
Several people have mentioned these guys already, so here they are! Energetic and melodic tracks blend emotion and rhythm, delivering a timeless and heartfelt experience.
And if you haven't yet seen the Jeremy Oxley documentary, 'The Sunnyboy', do so. #DavesTop100 #ausmusic
Sunnyboys - Sunnyboys
Vivid and chaotic album cover with a bold pink and purple background, featuring animated faces in a circular design, surrounded by electrifying yellow and white text.
I am cheating again by putting a compilation album in, but this is #DavesTop100 #ausmusic list and I make the rules. So suck! And Swallow. The Most Australian Band Ever!
Suck and Swallow - Hard-ons
