It’s another strange time here in Brooklyn, with the temperatures hovering somewhere between winter and fall. Walking hand-in-hand through the early dark with my wife, amidst this in-between feeling, I was struck by the nature of time: There we were, in our own shared moment, with events trailing off behind us and possibilities stretching out ahead, each tick of the clock trapped in amber. Yet that shared moment could last forever. Clarice Lispector writes of the “instante-já”: a state beyond the simple "now"; an eternal, intense presence that's always just passing. Sometimes this feeling is overwhelming, but not today. In fact, I found myself quite content to have that bubble never burst, to ride that “instante” forever on the crest of the present, never breaking into the future. So with a taste of that warm comfort (and break from my garrulousness), here’s some more (US) morning mellow.
