Autism isn’t a disorder, and we’re not disordered people.” 2: A Yellow/Green figure enters: Yeah, and don’t call it a disability either. We’re not disabled! LB/B: Actually, autism IS a disability. Plus, ‘disabled’ isn’t a bad word. Not everyone FEELS disabled by being Autistic, and that’s fine. But some people do, and that’s also fine. 3: A Pink/Magenta figure enters: Yeah, and besides, we’re only disabled by a society that’s not made for us! LB/B: Wellll, that’s only sorta true. For some Autistic people, the way they’re treated or their environment might be their biggest setback, but others would still be disabled no matter how accommodating the environment. 4: Y/G: Okay, this is way too much nuance for me. Isn’t there a simple, good/bad binary way to put it? LB/B: Best I can do is ‘Disordered=Bad, Disabled=Neutral/Subjective.'
