I’m raising funds to support Nicolle Orozco Forero, her husband Sebastián Moreno, and their two young sons, Juan and Daniel. Nicolle is a trusted childcare provider, caretaker, and college student in our Auburn, Washington community, where we face a serious shortage of care, especially for children with special needs and behavioral challenges. She worked in my licensed in-home childcare program, supporting children with autism, trauma, and behavioral issues, children many providers turn away. Many families rely on her. I also had the privilege of serving as her childcare mentor through the Imagine Institute, where I supported her journey to becoming a licensed provider. Nicolle and her husband Sebastián recently opened their own licensed home childcare program to help meet this growing need. Over time, they have become not just colleagues, but beloved family friends. The family is seeking asylum in the U.S. but made mistakes in their paperwork, which led to them being detained by ICE. Nicolle and the boys are currently being held together at a family detention center in Texas. Sebastián was separated from them and is being held separately at the same facility. We attained a lawyer to work on their case. A bond motion has been submitted to help get them released. We are currently raising funds for the immigration bond, legal fees, medical care for their son (who has a serious kidney condition), and other urgent family needs. They are being supported by the SEIU925, the Imagine Institute, the families Nicolle provides care for, and many dear friends who believe in their value and want to see this family reunited and safe. Though he’s eligible for a green card, Kratos Fernando has been in jail for nearly four months as an immigrant detainee. An old marijuana case put Kratos Fernando on Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s radar earlier this year as it ramped up immigration enforcement under President Donald Trump. ICE agents arrested Fernando, 25, in early March, and he’s been held in the Sherburne County jail ever since then. He’s since been ordered for release, he said, pending a medical examination required in order for him to obtain permanent residency in the United States.

Dylan directed a special message to his two elementary school-age siblings, with whom he shares a Bronx apartment along with their mother, Raiza. “I will be out soon,” he said. “I can’t wait to hug you tightly and watch movies together again.” Dylan’s arrest was a high-profile early example of an aggressive new immigration enforcement tactic under President Donald Trump in which officers arrest migrants after they appear for routine immigration court dates and thrust them into fast-track deportation proceedings. Dylan, a 20-year old Venezuelan student at ELLIS Prep, is the first known New York City public school student detained by immigration officials during Trump’s second term. “When I realized what was happening, I felt very confused and irritated,” Dylan said, adding he didn’t understand the consequences of the dismissal. He has since been shuttled across multiple states and is currently being held in Pennsylvania, where his lawyers and family say he is receiving inadequate medical treatment for severe stomach issues that doctors suspect may stem from cancer or Crohn’s disease.
