Doorstoppers in December Wrap Up I like to lose myself in a big, chunky read at the end of the year, and so I was immediately taken with idea of Doorstoppers in December when Laura at drlauratisdall.wordpress.com first mentioned it. While I wasn't sure how many I could squeeze in, I managed to read four doorstoppers last month. I'll be honest, I was hoping for five, but the Christmas period was quite hectic and there just wasn't as much time for reading as I'd hoped!

My #DoorstoppersInDecember wrap up post!

Flashlight (2025), by Susan Choi I really did enjoy romping through Susan Choi’s Flashlight after reading Christina Stead’s (literally) heavyweight House of All Nations.  It was a bit of a dash because it was due back …

It's much easier to read a novel for #DoorstoppersInDecember if it becomes a page-turner in the second half: Booker nominee Flashlight by Susan Choi

House of All Nations (1938), by Christina Stead What on earth can I tell you about Christina Stead’s Doorstopper House of All Nations that hasn’t already been said by the very small number of people who have read it? It’s big, …

I've done it! Christina Dead's House of All Nations is 832 pages and I've just scraped into #DoorstoppersInDecember by three days.

TCL’s WWW Wednesday #24 – December 24, 2025. The WWW Wednesday meme This meme was formerly hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm and was revived by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words and is a great way to do an update on your reading and plans. I know lots of people do this one every week, but my being such a slow reader, you'd all get bored seeing the same thing week after week.

#BookThreads #booksky 💙📚 #bookstodon. TCL's WWW Wednesday #24 - December 24, 2025. My reading schedule means I almost didn't find time to do this update, again. Thanks to @SamAnnElizabeth of Taking on a World of Words for #WWWWednesday #DoorstoppersInDecember #DeanStreetDecember #HappyHolidays2025

A Relatively Dangerous Resort. Book Review for “Everyone in My Family has Killed Someone” by Benjamin Stevenson. Summary: "I was dreading the Cunningham family reunion even before the first murder. Before the storm stranded us at the mountain resort. The thing is, us Cunninghams don't really get along. We've only got one thing in common: we've all killed someone. When they find the first body in the snow, it's clear that only a Cunningham could have committed the crime - and it's up to me to prove it.

Katabasis by R. F. Kuang Katabasis, noun, Ancient Greek. The story of a hero's descent to the underworld. Grad student Alice Law has only ever had one goal: to become the brightest mind in the field of analytic magick. But the only person who can make her dream come true is dead and – inconveniently – in Hell. And Alice, along with her biggest rival Peter Murdoch, is going after him.

Hi, and welcome to my Doorstoppers in December sign up post.  The brainchild of Laura who blogs at drlauratisdall.wordpress.com, Doorstoppers in December is intended to celebrate the big book when the publishing industry is trending towards shorter reads.  Like Laura, I sometimes want a big, chunky novel to fully immerse myself in and I like to tackle these books in December.
