"Generally people consider MSTPs more reputable, but I don't always think that's true", a poignant statement from Zach as a #studentathlete and #FLGI #doubledocs trainee. Nick notes that this my change #NIH funding rates, but in the long term what's important is the trainee and their values.
When it comes to some of the big questions about getting off the waitlist, your expectations for a program, for your experience in the #doubledocs training pathway. It all comes down to #communication. Our panelists can not say enough about the importance of clear communication.
Nick on the other hand, emphasized that "you're going to be [in training] for a long time", and that fact doesn't often set in until after you have started you 7-9 years of #doubledocs training. "They are not lying to you", and choosing the right program becomes all the more important.
Don't forget to ask, per Zach Zirgibel, "What's something the school is advertising but not telling you?" Nicholas also notes the importance of "the vibe" and the gut-check of belonging, of the program leadership, and of the training community. Remember the #doubledocs pathway is a long one!
We have some great panelists who have recently started their #doubledocs training. A rare treat? Both Zach Zirgibel and Nick Zacharewski are both training @osuwexmed.bsky.social, and they are (were) roommates!

Interesting survey with lots of #mdphd #doubledocs representation. Sad observations:
- vast majority have changed career plans based on federal changes
- supportive environment = $ - even for those new to this career can see this
www.nature.com/articles/s41...
An impt analysis of industry-sponsored research $ as federal $ dries up - appears 1% of physicians receive 1/3 of these funds. Will this mechanism be a feasible way to fill in funding gaps, especially considering the disparities already present? #mdphd #doubledocs

Such an important and underappreciated component of #mdphd training and the requisite support that trainees need. #doubledocs

Likewise! Such a great community for a budding #doubledocs physician-scientist, filled with great role models willing to support trainees and those in early-career.
I'm proud to serve @a-p-s-a.bsky.social and represent Vanderbilt's MSTP as APSA's National #Treasurer this year. We have an excellent batch of student-leaders old and new that I look forward to partnering with as we grow and improve #doubledocs #mstp initiatives! #SupportAPSA

As I end internal medicine residency, I've reflected on all my various rotations throughout this training including those where I've struggled and those where maybe I've been slightly above average, but I still feel my greatest strength of all has been vacation block. #bvi #usvi #mdphd #doubledocs
I'm excited to be matched to at @stanfordanes.bsky.social, an excellent program, and future home for me to continue my career as a physician scientist caring for the people from where I grew up. 🧑🏻⚕️👨🏽🔬 #doubledocs

Heard from someone I've mentored interested in #mdphd and #medchem about their #mdphd acceptances and I'm just over the moon for them! Also made me realize how much I miss mentoring folks interested in applying chemistry to medicine and similar career paths. #doubledocs
