Typographic advertisement in the Downpatrick Recorder (9 November 1861) announcing the opening of the Turkish baths. Details opening hours for men and women, and charges for different times of day ranging from 1/3d down to 6d. In the ladies bath, children under 10 were charged at half price, and those under 4 were admitted free. Shampooing cost 3d. extra. [The baths were not, of course, open on Sunday.]
#onthisday, 9 November 1861, Mr J Wilson opened #TurkishBaths at 15 English Street, #Downpatrick, Ireland. Little is known about them apart from what is in the advert announcing their opening. The town may have been too small to support them for they seem to disappear from view after 1863. 🗃️ #C19th
