Boyhood yearnings to be away to sea stirred this morning by the sight of tall ship Pelican of London here at #DublinPort and just meters from my office window I'm thinking John Masefield AND Annie Proulx strangely enough

Lovely to see holly planted as a hedge. At Station 3 (viewing area of port entrance), royal fern (Osmunda regalis) planted
Just a few more images from exploration of #DublinPort #TolkaEstuaryGreenway 10 Nov. 2024.
View to NE. Lowlying wooden bridge to Bull Island, Bull Island & golf courses; Hill of Howth in the background
Flock of goldfinch (as far as I could determine) by the side of the walkway

#DublinPort #TolkaEstuaryGreenway great for #wildlife. Brent geese etc. on sea side; on land side goldfinch perching on the more mature trees. Native plants used e.g. holly at Station 2. Fine granite blocks from Alexandra Basin incorporated in the stonework. History of the area also featured
At station 2 on Greenway. Looking north across the Tolka Estuary / Irish Sea towards Clontarf & flight path for Dublin Airport
Well surfaced, wide path runs around the edge of the Docks and the Ferry Terminal. Nice planting - herbaceous borders (in flower: 10 November 2024) and also shrubs and trees. Hill of Howth in distance (left hand side)
Cyclists having a fun day out. Also plenty of buggies, children on bikes etc.
View to NE - low wooden bridge to Bull Island and Hill of Howth
Fabulous new greenway at #DublinPort #TolkaEstuary. The edge of a busy commercial / ferry port totally transformed. Loved it! Well done to all involved in creating this great amenity for walkers & cyclists. Wonderful views of Clontarf, Bull Island & Howth; a new haven for wildlife

And then onto the ferry and across to #DublinPort The night time cycle out of Dublin Port is horrific, your are on a road dominated by huge fast moving lorries without a hard shoulder or cycle path. Very unpleasant at night, all the more so after days on good cycleways.
Actually the trip starts in the modern industrial landscape of #DublinPort - a foul smelling, fume belching, truck dodging hell of a cycle even at midday and as it will turn out much worse at midnight - view is from the @Irish_Ferries ship about to depart /2
