The #DutchElmDisease takes its name from the fact that it was first discovered and studied by these three female Dutch scientists.

Johanna Westerdijk was the first #female #professor in the Netherlands at a time when very few women had a place in #science.
Together with her two PhD students Marie Beatrice Schwarz and Christine Buisman, she identified #Ophiostoma ulmi as the #fungus responsible of the #DutchElmDisease.

A century of data reveals declining forest diversity | College of Agricultural, Consumer & Environmental Sciences | Illinois Researchers at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign have analyzed 96 years of forest census data to better understand ecological changes and inform management practices.

A recent study from UIUC shows that #EmeraldAshBorer and #DutchElmDisease have driven declining biodiversity in the sampled woods—and likely beyond—through impacts extending beyond just the loss of these two tree species.

This is a great rule! I have been so fortunate to have this, though the tree canopy is going through a big transition in my neighbourhood due to #DutchElmDisease #EmeraldAshBorer #TwoLineOakBeetle It will get worse before it gets better. #Minneapolis
