Good morning! Here are some of my favorite pictures from #ECFG17 in Dublin. Sadly I didn’t get any pics with @lablabella.bsky.social or @linder-surprise.bsky.social which I regret! So please enjoy these tourist pics instead 😂 had a great time but happy to be back home.

An interesting read. Neil Gow just gave a fantastic talk at the #ecfg17 on fungal cell wall components- on mannose polymers that can either be a flag or a mask for different immune cells. The part on the malaria parasite is also fascinating.

Thanks to everyone for making #ECFG17 great! It was an amazing conference with fantastic fungal science. If you want more details on Starships 🚀🧬 jumping between species, out preprint is now public.

Great talk by @ciarankelly.bsky.social on antimicrobial effectors in Peltigera. Predicted antimicrobial effectors indeed suppress growth of specific bacteria, non-lichen fungi, and plants - but much less so for Cyanobacteria. Super exciting stuff!

Next, Daniyal Gohar on bacterial endosymbionts in Mucoromycotina, where different bacteria present in ~20%of species. Some are parasitic, some are required for the host's sporulation. Do they contribute to the host diversification? >300 metagenomes will answer the question
