People of #esshc2025 #esshc, keep watching the @juliaheinemann.bsky.social space, as she @teresapetrik.bsky.social and friends uncover and share more and more on the Habsburg military disabled over the coming years, through her new project #milwefhist
Great to see #MWHN representation into the latter stages of #esshc2025 #eeshc from our @catsbeck.bsky.social and @juliaheinemann.bsky.social
Hope you had a blast! #milwelfhist
Last day of the #esshc2025 bingo, unfortunately managed to tick of another row for a double-bingo. "Unfortunately" due to the boxes ticked, but it was still an amazing conference. Hopefully I'll be back again in two years in Lyon!
It was lovely to be following in Huizinga’s footsteps in Leiden for the #ESSHC2025. So many magnolias!
Photo of powerpoint slide. "How to become an independent women? > Strategy 1: be born in the nobility (1%) > (Strategy 1b: have a lot of property for no clear reason - 9%) > Strategy 2: marry and wait for husband to die (65%)"

Job done at #esshc2025! Homebound, with @gudrunandersson.bsky.social
Day three of the #esshc2025 bingo. No changes from yesterday, but I also only attended two out four sessions (couldn't physically fit into the after-lunch one, so took a trip to a museum instead).
Last day of the great #ESSHC2025 at Leiden University. Thanks for a great conference and the opportunity to talk about Austria's asylum policy.
The last day of #ESSHC2025 has already started... Four fantastic days full of history, with 393 sessions and 1400 participants from 50 countries. With a special shout out to the organiser Els Kuperus, Manuela Rot and Astrid Verburg (whose daughter, history student, helped out at the conference!).
5 women sit smiling in a row behind a desk. A projector screen is on the wall behind them. On the desk in front of them are laptops, notebooks and drink bottles.
Yesterday’s #esshc2025 panel was such a joy. Talking about anticolonial mobilisation with the global history gang @riakapoor.bsky.social @sulinlewis.bsky.social and @emleake.bsky.social. Thanks to Anne-Isabell Richard for chairing and the audience for great engagement. Feeling inspired!
Great panel this morning @esshc.bsky.social #esshc2025 on 'Sympathy, discretion & mercy in suspected homicide cases' ⚖️with @sophiemhistory.bsky.social discussing coroners, @stephemmabrown.bsky.social gender in Welsh capital punishment & Alexa Neale on global politics and gendered mercy ⚖️🌟
Last night at the #esshc2025 @leol.bsky.social spoke about the global political climate, and specifically the US, in which critical scholars, independent judges, women fighting patriarchy and transgenders (among others) are under severe threat. A call to action to show moral courage speak out.
Last night at the #ESSHC2025 general meeting, with a beautiful spoken word performance and the winner of the Jan Lucassen Award: Karmen Misiou with her paper ' Beyond backlash. Unveiling Identity Transformations in the Face of Institutional Discrimination.'
We just had a super exciting panel #ESSHC2025 in Leiden on "Healing after the Holocaust: The Rehabilitation of Jewish Survivors in Postwar Sweden" with Pontus Rudberg, Kata Bohus, Victoria van Orden Martinez, Anca Aurelia Tudorancea, Anders Blomqvist, Malin Arvidsson and myself.
Full house at SOC-18, #migration & #inequality at #esshc2025, looking forward to talking about plague & migration in 18thC #Transylvania.
A week of inspiring insights into ongoing research projects at #esshc2025 in Leiden, not least the fascinating (and challenging) realm of sources. Historic research is indeed often about drinking an ocean and peeing a cupfull.
This morning's session very much illustrated the point.
So great to meet up with so many colleagues from the Military Welfare History Network at #esshc #esshc2025
Onward to session 2 of day 3 ar EESHC with our Dr Quentin Verreycken presenting on the reintegration of returning soldiers before a packed room #milwefhist #Veteran #esshc #esshc2025

On to paper 4 with @drmichaelreeve.bsky.social, who is discussing military service and tobacco 1850-1945 #tobacco #health #military #milwefhist #esshc #esshc2025
Someone in the audience of this sessions seems to have a radio on on low volume, no one else seems to react to this and I think I might be going insane
#esshc2025
