Every year I harvest wild garlic (Allium ursinus) to make a fermentation preserve. A small spoon adds a dash of salt/sour mild garlic taste to a soup or stew.

This leather bottle or flask was found deep in a bog in Cloonclose, County Leitrim.

From the decoration, it is believed to date to the early medieval period, making the bottle at least a thousand years old.

Soapstone Viking project

Started a new soapstone project: A Viking cauldron as is found in #Hedeby.
First I have to make the rough outside shape before I start. This is done with an ordinary woodsaw. It’s now also better to handle because less weight.
