I googled this afternoon. One website below suggested 30s for 12cdvs in the 1870s (payable weekly) and in 1890s it was 10s. My g-grandad's wages in 1886 were 17s pw so we are certainly looking at around one-two week's wages. No wonder it is the only photo of him.
