Purple coneflower. The image shows just a little bit of the stem coming up from the bottom of the photo and the flower takes up most of the frame. The middle part, or inflorescence, contains dozens upon dozens of small florets growing straight up. They are yellow with reddish tips. Surrounding that are the purple flowers that give the plant its name. They are long and sort of oval and stretch out downward. There are about a dozen of them visible in the photo. The background is blurred green, indicating other plants nearby.
