With all the discussion of GCSE and A Level grades in the last couple of weeks, and how it reflects on how well a teacher does their job, it's worth remembering that final attainment is only covered by 1 of the 8 teaching standards (even that is debateable).

Unpopular Opinion: I think the English alphabet should be scrapped in favour of using the International Phonetic Alphabet.

It's an opinion I've had for a while - turns out that something similar was tried in a more half-arsed way in the 60s.

Heard from a former colleague that her department has teachers who are struggling with the basics of teaching. Her HOD's solution is to implement mandatory PowerPoints so the teachers can 'focus on delivery'.

Apparently this is widespread practice across schools.

Right of Reply: Lefty Teachers I'll be honest, when I searched 'Daily Mail' and 'Teachers', I was expecting to see some form of teacher bashing. Even though the article was presumptively about Andrew Tate, I was sure the fact it was reporting teachers' views on the rise of misogyny in schools was going to lead to some inevitably underhand comments in the article.
