Growing up in 1970’s Michigan, my dad would play Gordon Lightfoot records. The tragedy of the Edmond Fitzgerald was lore to me, and it was years before it registered that this happened in my lifetime, when I was 5. Testament to the power a song can have. #EdmondFitzgerald

Today marks the 50th anniversary of the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald. The song by Gordon Lightfoot, retelling the somber tale, has enthralled me since I was a child.
