Per monitorare l’evoluzione degli incendi boschivi, il sistema europeo di informazione sugli incendi boschivi (EFFIS), gestito dal Centro comune di ricerca (JRC), riferisce in merito al numero di incendi e alla zona incendiata, i cui dati sono considerati più attendibili e pertinenti.

🔥 La stagione 2025 è la peggiore mai registrata in Europa: quasi 1 milione di ettari bruciati (media 2006-2024: 300mila).
In Italia, 40mila ettari devastati da 532 incendi, con emissioni di 13mila tonnellate di PM2,5 e quasi 3 mln t di CO₂.

A closer look at data from the #EFFIS shows that fires are starting earlier each year. The first sparks now flare weeks before summer, while the last embers die out much later. A longer season means more ground can burn, which is one reason behind this year's record total.

In France, #wildfires destroyed over 18600 hectares from the start of the year, compared to a 2006-2024 average of 6800 hectares for the same period, according to #EFFIS. While the exact origin of these fires is often difficult to determine, #drought and strong winds cause the spreading quickly.

The new #EFFIS #Copernicus report is published. Wildfires burned around 148000 ha of protected areas in the EU in 2024, including areas that are part of Natura 2000, the network of protected areas covering Europe’s most valuable and threatened species and habitats.
