Two small birds are perched on a black pockmarked rock. The bird in the back is gray with black feathering on its neck and chest, and white strips extend from its beak to the back of its head. The bird in front is seen only from the back.
We now find ourselves in Grants, New Mexico, where it's great to see black-throated sparrows again. This pair is perched atop a block of basalt – Grants is the site of several relatively recent #lava flows (tens of thousands of years ago), and ones in the distant past. #birds #ElMalpais #NewMexico
