At #HOMEmcr for #DavidWilkinson 's documentary #TheMarbles which examines the past removal of the #ParthenonMarbles - incorrectly called the #ElginMarbles - and the campaign to return them to their home in #Greece.
The Elgin Marbles - (The Parthenon Sculptures) Removed from Ottoman Greece in the early 19th century and shipped to Britain by agents of Thomas Bruce, 7th Earl of Elgin.
Time to give them back?

Vaguely familiar? Parts of friezes on the pedestal's of the #Acropolis the bits #LordElgin left behind after plundering the good stuff. Now insultingly called the #ElginMarbles seeing these fragments makes it so clear the sculptures must be returned to Greece - their proper place. (sound down)
Starting this week, I have decided to publish a weekly bulletin with progress reports and intelligence about the #ElginMarbles saga, including updates on my manuscript and "opposition watch". I hope people will find it useful

Given the current understanding of issues around antiquities, it can't have been recent.
So even if the gift hypothesis is the case, such items of cultural and historical significance SHOULD be returned to the place of origin.

Tried looking as unimpressed as possible, especially since I've been to the actual Parthenon this year.
I've never been pissed off by a room before.

And British museums for forrin artefacts. Innit. #ElginMarbles
Oh look, academics run scared of evidence-based confrontation on the #ElginMarbles here as well! Then it's just like that other place! 😂

British culture being nicking stuff from other people?

It would be fitting, and hilarious, if the #BayeuxTapestry, to be loaned next year by #France to the #UK, were to be displayed in the space at the #BritishMuseum vacated by the return to Greece of the Parthenon Marbles aka #ElginMarbles.
What an opportunity!
One of our former PMs (Trump supporter and born again fascist) isn't known for a nuanced and knowledgeable appreciation of cultural matters.

Liz Truss, David Starkey, John Redwood, Claire Bullivant and Ben Habib, all worried that they’re going to lose their marbles. Too bloody late, they lost theirs years ago!
God knows what Rupert Lowe thinks about it!

As the #Netherlands returns 119 #stolen sculptures to #Nigeria The #BeninBronzes were artefacts #stolen during the #UK’sImperial plunder of Benin, modern-day southern Nigeria. It's now more than time #Britain should return other looted artifacts. Such as the #ElginMarbles to #Greece
